Well, it seems like new Google trinkets are launching faster than roman candles this halloween. The latest is this election guide. It pleases me to see a giant corporation showing some social responsibility. The Voting guide gives information on the candidates running in each district, news feeds and even links to voter registration information. Check it out:

Also this week, Google launched it's Custom Search Engine. Build your own engine for your blog or your web site that focuses on the subjects and areas you're most interested in. Read more here:

There never seems to be a lack of news to talk about regarding Google. Can't wait to see what they have in store for next week!

The custom search engine is a great invention, but it's a little bit rough around the edges. I found it a little bit difficult to justify to people why they should use "my" Google-based search engine rathern than just doing a site-specific search in Google (I'm trying to provide a service to a popular forum community that had to disable text search on its forums because of the server pressure).
I also can't help but wonder whether the next step of the mini-Google evolution will be to allow a forum of a small comparison-shopping search engine - after all, they're supposed to be the next big thing in search engines.
Thats just crazy talk, Im going to give it a whirl and I'll get back to you with more details on the custom Google Search.
