Google has announced a program that will allow some of its advertisers to bid for space in major U.S. newspapers. "Print adds value the Internet doesn't have," said Tom Phillips, who runs Google's print operations. "It is a different browsable reading medium."Technology News: Portals & Search: Google Expands Ad Reach to Print News
Definitely a cool idea. If Google Ads translate well into the tangible world, I would suspect they won't stop at newspapers. Receipts, tickets, posters... heck, let's get some Goolgle ads imprinted on steaks, and the top of ice cream before you scoop. Or even Google Ads implants: a small device embedded in your brain that sends "ideas" to your conscious thought based on what you're looking at, what you're talking about, etc. You could be watching CSI: Tuktoyaktook one evening, when the thought strikes you, "Perhaps I should logon to randomdvdshop.com and purchase the first 17 seasons!". It could even get into your dreams... "This dream about going to work with no pants on has been brought to you by dontforgetyourpants.com by way of Google."
Ok... I may be getting ahead of myself here. We'll see how the newspaper ads do.
